Lectio Divina - On Jest 2.2.3

The "Lectio Divina - On Jest" application serves as a helpful resource for engaging with the Word of God in a manner that fosters personal transformation. Its purpose is to facilitate a reading of scripture that influences our thinking and guides us towards making good choices and decisions illuminated by divine light.

This digital platform is an electronic adaptation of the Lectio Divina reflections that have been prepared since 2011 in printed form for parishioners of Our Lady of Sorrows in Wrocław - Strachocin, by members of the "On Jest" community within the Light of Life Movement.

The creators aimed to develop a simple, accessible, and intuitive tool for prayerful engagement with the Word of God. The content is presented in clear language to make the reflections approachable, connecting scripture to everyday life and personal experiences. The application particularly addresses individuals seeking a structured yet straightforward method to pray with Scripture, especially those feeling a need for spiritual practice that is easy to incorporate into daily routines.

The reflections—serving as commentaries—are authored by laypeople. Their role is primarily supportive, with the main goal being to lead the user into a personal encounter with the living, effective Word of God. As St. Paul famously states, the Word is "living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart" (Hebrews 4:12). The app guides users step-by-step through this contemplative process, encompassing four key stages:

• Reading (lectio)
• Meditation (meditatio)
• Prayer (oratio) and dwelling in God's presence (contemplatio)
• Action (actio)

A principal benefit reported by users of the Lectio Divina method is an increased sensitivity to hearing God's voice in daily life, alongside encouragement for regular Scripture-based prayer. Other appreciated aspects include how this form of reflection helps harmonize prayer with life itself: "Prayer is not an escape from life; my life becomes prayer," "The lectio method organizes my life," "I feel that God guides and warns me on how to live each day."

The app features only one scripture reading selected from the liturgical readings prescribed by the Church for each specific day, reflecting St. Ignatius' insight that "it is not abundance of knowledge but internal feeling and savoring that satisfy and nourish the soul." The application functions offline, with weekly updates to texts downloaded every Saturday for the upcoming week. Additionally, it provides a clear overview of the entire Lectio Divina process to support users in their reflection practice.

Since December 2017, the application has also been available on iPhone devices.
